Dashomi – Red and White Cotton Saree

There is one saree that does not change. Red border, white body, worn on Dashami for sindoor khela, and worn again every year after that.

We keep ours in plain cotton rather than silk, because the day involves standing, walking and being pulled into other people photographs. The border is woven in, not printed on, so it holds its edge after washing.

Care

Hand wash in cold water for the first two washes, separately, as the red border releases a little colour. Dry in shade. Machine wash gently after that.
