Bot Chhaya – Hand-Painted Panjabi in White

Bot Chhaya means the shade of the banyan. Two trees, one leaning in from each side, painted wet so the blue and the green run together, and the whole thing repeated upside down underneath as a reflection. There is no horizon line, which is what makes it read as water.

White cotton ground, painting across the chest and down the front. The plainest cut of the four, and the easiest to wear with a plain white pyjama.

Care

Hand wash the first time, cold water, no soaking. Painted cloth does not like being left wet, so wash it and hang it. Dry in shade, never in strong sun. Iron on the reverse and keep the iron off the painting itself.
