SD Pannu teaches hand painting on fabric. Not a demonstration, not a video course you watch alone, but a live class where you paint and she corrects you while the brush is still in your hand.

What you will learn

  • Which fabric to start on, and why muslin is the wrong place to begin.
  • Preparing and stretching cloth so it does not move under the brush.
  • Which colours hold on fabric and which fade after two washes.
  • Drawing an outline straight onto cloth, with no stencil and no transfer paper.
  • Laying colour in thin layers so it does not bleed.
  • Shading, which is the step that separates hand-painted work from printed work.
  • Heat-setting and finishing so the piece survives washing.

Who it is for

Beginners are welcome. You do not need to be an artist. Most people who join want a skill they can earn from, and several of our students now sell their own painted pieces.

Classes run live

Classes are held live so you can ask questions while you work. To join, or to ask about the fee and the next batch, call 01743177116.

See the teaching first

Before you decide, watch the free tutorials on our YouTube channel. There are step-by-step videos on painting a saree, a kameez, an orna, a chador and a panjabi, including a whole video on colour shading. If you like how the teaching feels there, the class is the same thing with your own work in front of you.
